Arudhra is currently an independent researcher and freelance contemporary dance teacher and choreographer based in Chennai, India. She completed her doctorate in Cultural Studies in 2017 at the National University of Singapore where she studied the anthropology of dance and specifically the practice of dance therapy because she strongly believes that dance is not only glamorous and entertaining but is also a beautiful and powerful language of communication. She is a former lecturer of dance at the Lasalle College of the Arts and Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Singapore. As an educator, Arudhra has taught several contemporary dance workshops , classes and intensive programmes both locally and internationally in the last six years. She is also a former company dancer of two reputed dance companies namely The Danceworx in India and The Royal Dance Off in Singapore. She has been a visiting faculty for various dance institutes such as The Royal Dance Off, Millenium Dance Complex Singapore and Step Studio, Singapore. She was also an Emerging Scholar Award recipient at the 14th Arts in Society Conference held in Lisbon, Portugal. Her main research interests lie in the field of aesthetics, activism through the arts, embodiment, dance studies, dance anthropology, community outreach through the arts. She is currently also working on a few choreography projects that will staged in Singapore and Indonesia in Aug 2020.
