Anneleen Van Hertbruggen obtained a Master’s degree in German literature at the University of Antwerp in Belgium (2010) and a second Master’s degree in Interreligious Studies (Christianity – Judaism – Islam) at the Otto-Friedrich-Universität Bamberg in Germany (2012). At the time, she is preparing a Ph.D. in German literature at the University of Antwerp. Her research project aims to contribute to the understanding of the rhetorical structure and collective symbolism of political-religious discourse in the Nazi-biased poetry of the literary group Junge Mannschaft. Therefore, she focusses on religious discourse in the propaganda poetry of the Nazi authors Heinrich Anacker (1901-1976), Gerhard Schumann (1911-1995) and Herybert Menzel (1906-1945). While combining the methods of the Critical Discourse Analysis with theoretical insights from the field of research on Political religions, she wants to procure a new analytical basis to define the formal, thematic, and argumentative specificities of the Nazi poetry of propaganda writers.
