  Dr. Katz is a Clinical Professor in the Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work. For the past 24 years, She was the Co-Director of The Tingstad Older Adult Counseling Center and Professor of Clinical Gerontology at the USC Davis School of Gerontology. Her research interests include: interprofessional student education, Aging in prison (especially expressive arts in prison) HIV/AIDS in older adults, caregiver stress, and women issues in Aging. Dr. Katz supervised the "Healing Squad" a program that provided social work interns rare opportunity to go inside inside state prisons and work in a therapeutic environment with elderly inmates, a much neglected and vulnerable population. The interns would facilitate art expression workshops on a monthly basis. In 2017, she was awarded Fellow status by the Gerontological Society of America (GSA), the world's oldest and largest interdisciplinary organization devoted to research, education, and practise in the field of aging. Fellowship - the highest class of membership - is an acknowledgement of outstanding and continuuing work in the field of Gerontology.

  Dr. Katz received her Master’s Degree in Social Work from San Diego State University in 1981 and became licensed in clinical social work in 1984. She worked as a geriatric social worker until 1988, and then returned to school to pursue a PhD in Social Work, graduating from the USC Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work in 1992.
