Selected GRISP transformative investment

Monitoring systems – invest in an information system that identifies and tracks each person’s vaccination status

Evaluate the programme through surveys, assessments and reviews

Strategies and activities

  1. Conduct national immunization programme reviews regularly in preparation of strategic programme planning
  2. Evaluate the introduction of new vaccines with PIES
  3. Substantiate immunization coverage data with coverage surveys
  4. Assess the strengths and weaknesses of the immunization supply chain through the WHO/UNICEF Effective Management Assessment (EVM) strategy
  5. Evaluate programme challenges with qualitative and quantitative methods in communities, households and facilities
  6. Assess the reliability of the reporting systems with DQS
  7. Conduct serosurveys to measure the impact of vaccination and to highlight population susceptibility gaps

Threee prioritized strategies

1. Conduct national immunization programme reviews regularly in preparation of strategic programme planning

  • Comprehensive review covering all levels, 
  • Conducted by national staffs and external participants
  • Provide strengths and weaknesses of immunization system
  • Provides additional external recommendations on challenges
  • Core component of the situational analysis of cMYP
  • Equally feed into health sector plans

2. Substantiate immunization coverage data with coverage surveys

  • To validate administrative data
  • Information on unvaccinated/undervaccinated populations
  • Social and economic determinants that affect coverage
  • Coverage validation (incomplete/uncertain admin data, issue of target population)
  • Substantiate administrative coverage
  • Field data collection monitored
  • Data analysis and interpretation should be verified
  • Harmonize and review home or facility based records
  • Availability of home based records
  • Coverage of the ‘fully immunized child’
  • Reasons for undervaccinated

3. Evaluate programme challenges with qualitative and quantitative methods in communities, households and facilities

  • Linked household and facility surveys
  • KAP assessment and ‘Hundred Household’ assessment.
