I did my professional studies in Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies (Theology) at Aquinas University College, Colombo, Sri Lanka (2011-2014). I recently finished the Research Master: Master of Advanced Studies in Theology and Religion at KU Leuven. I am currently a doctoral researcher at KU Leuven Belgium and working on the theme “CHILDREN’S SPIRITUALITY AND PEACE: A PRACTICAL THEOLOGICAL ANALYSIS IN THE POST-WAR CONTEXT OF SRI LANKA” My special motivation to write a Ph.D. is to identify the spiritual experiences of children in the post-war context of Sri Lanka. I hope this knowledge can help people to support children appropriately and might be a small contribution to be a more peaceful nation. This research is an attempt to investigate the conceptions of spirituality held by war-affected and non-war-affected children in the post-war context of Sri Lanka. The main purpose of the research is to find out how children experience spirituality and how this spirituality might be colored by war experiences, and also how it might help them to cope with war experiences. Finding out the aspects of spirituality that are relevant for growing into peaceful relations will help us, direct children, to have a better relationship with each other. This research may shed insights into a renewal of the spirituality of children towards peacebuilding in the post-war context of Sri Lanka. A part of my doctoral research is empirical research on their spirituality which will be done from September 2020-February 2021. Therefore I am writing my paper for this conference with the help of existing research and literature. This empirical research is to find out whether their spirituality can motivate them to become peacebuilders in the community or whether there might be some aspects of their spirituality that rather prevent peace-building (e.g; intolerance against people from other religions etc.).
