...MoreI am a PhD student at Kyoto University, Japan. I have been making a research on historical change of couple relationship in modern Japan. Through this research I have realized that, although the leading discourse seemed to emphasize the romantic love ideology, specific models were borrowed from conventional relationships such as interaction of geisha and the customer in order to create intimacy in couples. This suggests the importance of examining how conventional extra marital relationship had influence on constructing modern couple relationship along with the romantic love ideology. The focus on the custom of keeping/becoming a mistress in my presentation will be the first step to achieve this goal.
