Eva Alcón Soler – 2020 Plenary Speaker

We are excited to announce that Eva Alcón Soler will be speaking at the Twenty-seventh International Conference on Learning.

The philologist Eva Alcón Soler has been rector of the Universitat Jaume I (UJI) of Castellón since May 2018 and is the first woman to hold this position. She is a delegate for Equality Policies of the Presidency of the Conference of Rectors and Rectors of the Spanish Universities (CRUE). In 1999, she founded the research group, Linguistics Applied to Teaching in English Language (LAELA). She also coordinates the master's degree program in language teaching and acquisition of English in multilingual contexts (MELACOM).

Eva Alcón Soler's main research area has focused on the acquisition of the English language as a second or third language. Her research has been included in more than 80 publications, including books and scientific monographs, chapters of books, and scientific articles in various journals. Her innovative ideas and research areas made her an international reference in the field of second language acquisition, where the highlighted research area is the pragmatic acquisition of languages.

She has been a visiting professor at the Birkbeck University of London (United Kingdom); Macquarie University (Australia); Institut Für Allgemeine und Angewandte Sprachwissenshaft (University of Hamburg, Germany); University of California at Los Angeles (United States); Anglia Rusking University (United Kingdom); Trinity College (Ireland); and Mercyhurst College (United States). In the field of academic management, she has been a degree director, vice dean of English philology (1999-2001), vice chancellor for academic planning and students (2001-2006), vice chancellor for international relations (2006-2010), collaborator of the UNESCO chair in university management and policy, and an evaluator of ANEP, AVAP, and ANECA.
