Project-Based Learning

Problem Based Learning (PBL)

Active knowledge making is the new way to engaging learners in the classroom to create knowledge more knowledge than consuming it. When learners are creating knowledge themselves, they become participants and are more involved than when they are listening to the teacher. When learners are involved in the creation of knowledge they become active in the areas that they are interested in. In the creation of knowledge Project-Based Learning can be used.

Project Based Learning is a teaching approach whereby students work in small groups while they explore and investigate real-world problems and challenges and developing some skills in the process (Goodman, 2010).

Project-Based Learning can be applied in a situation where students have to work on an assignment in a small group. The assignment topic which the students have to work on is a topic that is related to the learning goal. When the students receive the driving question with clear instructions of what is needed to complete the task, they can begin with their inquiry process. During the inquiry process, the students should search for sources in relevant platforms, ask critical questions and apply the knowledge that they have learned. During the process of inquiry and searching of sources, students will have to critically read the information that they collected in order to find answers or solutions to the problem or the driving question. Once the group has completed its project, then they can make their findings available by sharing with the class through presentations and other students from other groups can engage with them by asking questions based on their findings and in the process learn from one another.

Why use Project-Based Learning:

It improves the communication skills of the students;
It enhances and promote student collaboration;
It improves their life skills; and
it promotes student engagement
