Vanessa Irvin Joins the Information, Medium and Society Advisory Board

Vanessa Irvin is an Assistant Professor with the Library and Information Science Program at the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa. Dr. Irvin's research focuses on integrating social media with the literacy practices of librarian professional development. Dr. Irvin conducts research with public librarians as communities of practice in urban, rural, and indigenous contexts. With a frontline librarian career that spans three decades, Dr. Irvin teaches in the areas of reference, youth, and multicultural/diversity services. Vanessa has one book to her credit thus far, The Readers' Advisory Guide to Street Literature, which was the 2012 Zora Neale Hurston Book Award, conferred by the Reference and User Services Association of the ALA. Dr. Irvin is currently working on publishing in peer-reviewed publications and conferences throughout the library and information science field to report her research activities and outcomes.
