What is the Emerging Scholar Award?

For each conference, a small number of Emerging Scholar Awards are given to outstanding graduate students or early career academics who have an active academic interest in the conference area. Emerging Scholars perform a critical role in the conference by chairing the parallel sessions, providing technical assistance in the sessions, and presenting their own research papers. The Award, with its accompanying responsibilities, provides a strong professional development opportunity for graduate students at this stage in their academic careers. Meeting experts in the field, interacting with colleagues from other parts of the world, and creating networks and friendships are all additional benefits of this Award. Emerging Scholars are entitled to free registration and are given special recognition during the conference proceedings. Awardees must be available on-site the day prior to the conference (for orientation and training) and throughout the conference.

Who can apply for the award?

Anyone who is currently enrolled in a graduate studies program or an early career scholar, is welcome to apply for the award.

Should I register for the conference if I have applied for the award?

Applicants should wait for the results of their application before registering for the conference. Should an applicant win the Emerging Scholar Award, they will be provided with complimentary registration. Should an applicant not receive the award, they will still have time to register and attend the conference.  Applicants should submit their application for the Emerging Scholar Award by the Early Application Deadline to ensure the lowest registration rate possible, should the applicant not receive the award.

Refunds will not be provided to Emerging Scholar Award Winners; instead, a credit will be made to your Scholar Wallet which can be used at a future conference or in our bookstore.

Have I been selected as an Emerging Scholar?

All recipients of the Emerging Scholar Award will be notified three months before the date of the conference.
