Presentation Types: Innovation Showcase

Purpose and Goals

Innovation showcase / Creative Practice sessions offer researchers and innovators the opportunity to present practices, products or research and development. Presentations should be grounded in presenters' research experience. Promotional conversations are permissible; however, products or services may not be sold at the conference venue. Even if you're presenting in-person we strongly encourage you to also add your digital content.

Blended Conference Options

  1. In-Person plus Online (recommended for maximum interaction)

  2. In-Person only

  3. Online only

What does an Innovation Showcase Session look like?

  • In-Person: Please prepare for a 20 minute presentation, focusing your verbal remarks on the major conclusions and implications that are the essence of your work, product and/or service. Discussion can take place during the session or at its conclusion.

  • Online: video demonstrations, online galleries, etc.

Can I Use Visual Aids?

  • In-Person: All Innovation Showcase / Creative Practice session rooms are equipped with screens and data projectors. Conference delegates are asked to bring their own laptop computers (unless otherwise noted in the Delegate Information Packet, see the conference venue page and download the Delegate Information Packet for complete equipment information; this packet is available 6 weeks prior to the conference start date). If you are a Mac user, please be sure to bring the correct Mac VGA adaptor. Note that overhead projectors for transparencies are not provided in session rooms. If you are considering distributing handouts, approximately 10-15 copies are recommended. Be sure to highlight the authors' names and address information in case the viewer is interested in contacting them for more information. It's also a good idea to bring business cards with you to have handy in case additional interest is generated.

  • Online: Additional to your video presentations, please feel free to add any additional documentation to your presentation page.

Will There Be Time for Questions?

  • In-Person: While your attendees may be eager with questions, it is useful to have one or two prepared questions ready that you can use, if needed, to stimulate the discussion. Questions need not only be for you as the presenter, they may also be directed to the attendees at the session, encouraging their participation, feedback, and the sharing of insights and lessons learned.

  • Online: Innovation Showcase / Creative Practice sessions have dedicated online discussion areas, where comments and questions can be directed. In-person conference participants are requested to add their comments and questions during the session for the benefit of the speakers and those not attending the conference.
