Participatory Approach for a Collective Management of Heritage : Sensitization and Volunteering in Casablanca

Abstract

“To preserve a city’s heritage, you must first make people love its heritage.” The management and preservation of heritage requires the implementation of tools and approaches that are better adapted to the realities of different audiences. This approach consists of putting into practice tools to raise heritage awareness among these different audiences so that they can in turn participate in the revitalization of their heritage and the places dedicated to them (especially museums). Voluntary work and participation of the large public in the preservation and valorisation of the heritage / case of collective museums. The implication of the population in all heritage and museum management processes should be taken into consideration. This is a participatory approach through the involvement of all the components of the city without distinction. This approach leads to a reappropriation of heritage and museums by the public. One example of our work in Casablanca is with the Casamemoire association and our approach to setting up collective museums or neighbourhood museums. In terms of implications of the young public and the school community, for when we speak of young people, we speak of the future, and when we speak of the future, we speak of tomorrow’s young people and tomorrow’s citizens. The implication of young people, especially the school community, is essential to the enhancement of heritage through educational activities on the notions of heritage in museums and schools. I consider the example our activities with our Patrimonuim project, the Cities and Heritage workshops.
