Investigating the Development of the Museum Product-service System Design from the Perspective of User Experience: A Closer Look at an Iran Ancient Museum

Abstract

This study is based on defining “experience” as a result or product of an environment, such as in a museum. Furthermore, the environment of a museum nurtures an experience that is shaped by the visitor. Experience in the language of a museum then can be categories in terms of position and purpose as the museum visitors experience can be categories through various factors. Design solutions to enrich the visitor experience has suggested by a new product-service system (PSS) in this research. The information collected by observing visitor behavior and collecting their opinion and thoughts based on three main categories of emotion, learning, and sharing, take place at Iran Ancient Museum. The main purpose of the study is to see how this experience can developed and become more meaningful. The product-service system design can be imported to the visit process for museum visitors. There are various tools which can assist the museum provides people with an effective experience, such as technology implication, using websites, or mobile phone applications. We propose a new paradigm for museum experience design to facilitate, on the one hand, an interactive platform for visitors to create a dialogic connection with each other and, on the other hand, a memorable experience by using the service system during and after their visit.
