Abstract
This session will open a discussion about the imperialistic factors that have led to the under-valuing of cultural produce in the African social and political economy. With a focus on the archive, it will be an exploration of the ways in which heritage repositories in African countries have been depleted and incapacitated. It will offer connections to the resultant developmental challenges rampant across the continent as well as the continuing colonial legacy of European museums today. Africa’s creative economy is a potential powerhouse for social, political, and economic progress and an investigative discussion into its current status and role can be vital in exploring strategies in which development can be achieved for the dignity of African people.
