Abstract
In this research, I aim to deepen the studies on the architectural project of Brasília, conceived by Lucio Costa and Oscar Niemeyer, with the purpose of understanding urban planning and the potential emotional impacts that this unique city can have on its foreign residents. The research contributes to the discussion of Brasília’s Superquadras versus the perception of foreigners. Examining the foreign perspective on Brasília and its reflection in the emotional realm highlights the relevance of intangible outcomes produced by modernist-based rationalist architecture and urbanism. This project further explores functionality - the integration of form and function - aesthetics, and emotion. Through contemplative walks involving foreign participants, we collect and record their emotional experiences, ultimately to create an emotion map that charts these lived experiences and perceptions.
