Using the Still Image as a Moving Image Editing Method

Abstract

In this twenty-minute video essay presentation, I share examples of how I have used the still image in my practice-base research to document geographically defined anarcho-punk subcultures as both a historical artefact and element of actuality in the moving image editing technique. This technique I argue, helps overcome the reality of ‘absence of presence’ to record historical events which celebrates the technique as a multimodal method to re-present emotive historical context using the still image and recorded diegetic/non-diegetic sound in the creation of intended meaning.
