Abstract
Earthquake and wildfire are two ever-present, growing concerns for residents of California. The most threatened area is the wildland-urban interface, which not only serves as a physical border separating human society and nature, but also as a metaphorical boundary preserving peace and balance between the two. This project utilizes relevant data to present the sequence of earthquakes and wildfires in California, intended to evoke people’s awareness and promote well preparation. Also, it highlights the growing severity of the wildfires in California and compare the amount of man-made and naturally caused wildfires, focusing on conveying to the viewer humanity’s more significant impact in nature’s destruction. Through data collection, data analysis and data visualization, my paper will showcase the project design process, and demonstrate how to apply visual theory at every stage.
