Abstract
This article aims to characterize the aesthetics of contemporary cinema and to understand the role of the cinematographer and aesthetic distinctions in relation to the classic and to modern cinema. Thus, the paper is separated into two stages: a historical construction about the development of cinema distinguishing the visual proposals of classic and the modern cinema; and conceptualized flow cinema, and analysed its aesthetic characteristics. For the analysis, scenes were selected from the films “Chungking Express” by Won Kar-Wai, “Millenion Mambo” by Hou Shao Shien and “Still Life” by Jia Zhang-keke.
