Adolescents’ Spiritual Well-Being: Experiences of Wellness

Abstract

Spirituality and well-being are objects of investigations in many academic disciplines. This study discussed the spiritual well-being vis-à-vis spirituality of adolescents in the Philippines. Using the Spiritual Health and Life-Orientation Measure (SHALOM) of John Fisher, the results of the dats was analyzed in the lense of interpretive approach of Philip Sheldrake. SHALOM data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U Test and SPSS. The qualitative analysis came up with the discussion of the Filipino adolescents’ spiritual well-being as exhibited in their experiential relationship with oneself, others, the environment, and the transcendent. This was connected with religious experience of ascetical-monastic, mystical, active-practical, and prophetic-critical. In general, Filipino adolescents’ spiritual well-being is described as positive. This study hopes to contribute to the vast literature of spirituality and well-being.
