Abstract

The project “CuidArte - We take care of your health through art”, was proposed between 2013 and 2015 as a positive, humanistic, and comprehensive strategy. That uses artistic and pedagogical practices as a parallel tool to the development of health promotion and prevention processes together with the Collective Interventions Plan (PIC). Present itself as an element of incidence and change in habits and behaviours for the adequate development of the health of the indigenous, peasant, and black communities of Inzá and Páez, Colombia. In this sense, the CuidArte project provides spaces and environments that build behaviours in favour of the prevention of risk behaviours for health, focusing on activities that promote the advantages of collaborative work, the development of self-esteem, the appropriation of identity and the territory, the acceptance of difference and the development of creative thinking as a means of support to mediate and expel individual and collective conflicts. The CuidArte project achieved an increase in the participation and empowerment of the community in the face of health problems since three types of programs were created focused on artistic, social and health education projects involving all communities of the territory. We review these programs: “Aprendamos a CuidArte” with the theatre workshop and the plastic arts workshop with permanent functions for the promotion and prevention of health; “Hospital Classroom” with recreational workshops for health promotion within the hospital in different areas of action; and “CuidArte Exterior” based on events and public contests as well as communication through the local radio station.
