Climate Change: Rethinking Health and Fitness

Abstract

This work is an exploratory look at the effects of climate change on health and fitness in society. Current research findings report an increase in obesity and depression in areas with drastic climate changes. The cultural importance of health and fitness to the individual in society is the focus of my thinking. The Republic, by Plato, demonstrates this importance of the harmony between the individual and society. In addition, the Ancient Greeks established the gymnasium for physical training. This paper explores the “gymnasium” in 2020 with the advances in both training and technology. Finally, it includes a look at public policy and the emphasis on physical fitness in today’s society.
