Mindfulness-based Interventions for Cardiovascular Disease and Risk Factors in the United States: A Systematic Review of Effectiveness and Implementation Data

Abstract

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a persistent public health challenge worldwide. Mindfulness-based Interventions (MBI) have been researched for CVD and its risk factors, however, the efficacy and potential for implementation of these interventions remains unclear. This systematic review summarizes variations in implementation (i.e., intervention design, delivery and uptake, and contextual factors) and analyzes evidence supporting MBI’s application to cardiovascular risk outcomes. Additionally, this paper analyzes the current research for potential barriers, identifying challenges to implementation, and suggests future research directions.
