Abstract
The program discusses the theoretical framework, collaborative partnership with the Maryland Department of Aging, community needs assessment, applied research and educational initiative, and outcomes of the program. Maryland’s 60+ population is anticipated to increase from 1.2 million to 1.7 million between 2015 to 2030 (40% increase from 2000-2014). In order to address such rising need within the specific age group, the University of Maryland Extension and Maryland Department of Aging partnered to identify statewide and regional needs within Maryland. The effort was initiated with statewide comprehensive needs assessment, identified regional disparities, using findings for health advocacy, and developed a program with various local agencies.
