Abstract
Some researchers in the US have suggested that urban public space is so privatized that is no longer lively or diverse. In fact, that is not the case as the recent book Routledge Handbook of Urban Public Space: Use Design and Management (Franck and Huang, editors, 2023) demonstrates. Twenty-two chapters are based on thorough empirical research conducted in 15 countries including China, Germany, Libya, Finland, Egypt, Taiwan, Colombia, Turkey, and Brazil. These chapters cover seven topics: emerging types, recreation, commerce, protest, living, celebration, and research methods.
