Architectures for Autistic Bodies

Abstract

This project consists of the design of a classroom prototype from the perspective of sensory integration techniques, such as tactile, vestibular and proprioceptive, aligned with the other senses, in order to facilitate attention and awareness, while reducing the general arousal of children with autism. The result of the study materialized in a pavilion that is being built in “ConTacto”, a center for autistic children in the city of León, Mexico. Children with autism, as well as those with other conditions that limit development, may have dysfunctions in the sensory system. Sometimes one or several senses react excessively or insufficiently to stimulation.
