Multiconceptual Design: A Focus on Religion

Abstract

Today many new and old cities are tending toward multicultural urban structures and settings. This is often because of policies by governments to attract people from all over the world and use the socio-economical potentials and opportunities of them. But there are many problems in these societies which need attention and studies according to needs and culture. Cultures have specific beliefs with specific spaces and places for worship. This research focuses on design of these spaces and places. One of the most important factors in today’s freedom is respect. When people from different cultures gather in one city or community, they must respect each other and their beliefs and values. This respect can be considered as an important and sensitive concept in planning and design of all urban spaces and places. Planners and architects must observe, study, analyze, and perceive these cultures equally and from different point of views. It can be a creative design proposal that public spaces, landscapes, and buildings be planned and designed in a way that contain characteristics and values of all cultures parallel to each other. It can be as folding style of architecture that spaces arise from the ground in multi layered format or it can be as deconstruction style of architecture that different multi conceptual spaces combined and shaped together. These approaches to design provide various acceptable cultural symbols of faith as part of a place.
