Study of Need for Energy Proficient Buildings in Lahore

Abstract

The increase in population has increased the need for energy supply. In order to solve this problem various approach have been devised to fulfill meet these energy demands. There has been a noticeable energy crisis situation in many countries like Pakistan that has badly affected its economic stability. Apart from the energy production shortage there has been noticed a deliberate increase in the use of this production even in the domestic sector apart from the industrial sector. This paper is part of doctoral research to develop a statement leading towards the solution to improve this problem in the domestic sector in Lahore and it aims to first review the efforts made by the related departments to address this dilemma. This inquiry is based upon the conservation policies and building bylaws followed by discussion on key areas like building design, layout, and orientation, thermal insulation, and day lighting as parameters that have triggered the rise in increase of energy demand in the residential sector and has to be addressed in this area of research as an effort by the architects and planners. This paper is an effort to indicate the need of energy efficient buildings, thus making our houses energy efficient and other solutions in Pakistan keeping in view of the energy preservation and proficiency as improvising architectural design solutions. The research concludes that by devising energy proficient buildings in Pakistan we can save significant energy for our daily use that will directly affect our economy.
