Ingredients and Restrictions of Dates Industry in Al Qassim Region: A Study in Industrial Geography

Abstract

The dates and palms sector in Al-Qassim region represents an economic advantage, and If we take this region as a model for this economic development, we will find that Al-Qassim became an important center for the palms and dates, as the recent estimates indicate that there are more than seven million palm trees found. Taking these numbers into consideration, and due to the increasing importance and distinguished kinds produced in that region, in addition to the size of the cultivation sector and the trade of the palms and dates, we find ourselves in front of a productive economic sector that represents a value added to the national production. It is an excellent local sector beginning with the agriculture and ending with the sale and export. This characteristic in the palm and dates sector makes it a wide field for work and production opportunities. This study offers an analysis and evaluation of the nature of the dates industry in Al-Qassim region in regard to the importance of the location, the industrial localization, and recognizing the available opportunities and facilities in order to develop it. The study identifies the general characteristics of the dates industry in Al-Qassim’s region, and the factors that affect it, in addition to the spatial analysis, identifying the ingredients and obstacles of the dates industry in Al-Qassim’s region, and the future spaces of this industry in the region.
