Abstract
In Brazil, we are faced with the challenge of reusing pre-existing historical heritage structures, many of them abandoned or underused. Projecting on an existing structure seems less complex than planning new ones. The starting point is a concrete work conceived in its essence and substance that aims at material and functional rehabilitation. When considering the historical preexistences, we consequently question the parameters of the modinatura of the five facades as guidelines for intervention projects in the Brazilian patrimony. The difficulty of projecting under different temporal layers makes us understand that we do not have the power to decide now what the future considers important to redeem from our present time. As Henri Lefebvre said, the historical past is redefined every time that, in the present, a possibility that it has made possible is concretized. We find the potentiality of the present time in the void articulated by the enclosure of edification; a state of openness that breaks limits and allows transcending established logics by provoking the emergence of meanings by the awakening of unplanned circumstances and events. Allied to the thoughts of Bernard Tschumi and Georges Bataille, we affirm that, in order to understand the different modes of notation of architecture, it is necessary to recognize the sense of limit as an invitation to transgression, expanding and exceeding concepts. Thus, to think the interior of the constructed object would be to recognize its limits as a field of experience capable of transforming barriers through different possibilities of action.
