Abstract
Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) is an important aspect of development. This is so because of its application to almost every field of human endeavour, geography and environmental sciences not an exception. Aspects in geography cover physical geography, human geography, regional and spatial science. It was discovered that, despite the fact that ICT have been adequately integrated in geography and environmental sciences in many parts of the world, Nigeria still has a long way to go. In integrating ICT to geography, data is the main focus. ICT should be integrated in the area of data collection, management and analysis. In the area of data collection, a holistic approach needs to be considered; tools that will collect data related to each field should be developed and not just for a particular variable. In the area of data management, cloud computing is taking the front line, because it helps save a lot of stress and pain that come with loss of data. While significant numbers of software have been designed in the area of data analysis, there is low technical knowhow. The major challenges facing ICT development and integration in the field of geography and environmental sciences are: low technical know-how, government attitude towards ICT development, poor funding for research and staff development, poor infrastructure, and reluctant attitude of teachers to accept new technologies. It was therefore suggested among others that government should properly fund ICT research and provide institutions with up-to-date technologies for development and innovation in ICT.
