Abstract

The aim of this study is to consider the importance of E-leaders in leading secondary schools. The researcher has used purposive and convenience sampling as he intends to explore the experiences of Heads of Secondary Schools, fifteen in all, who are reading their Post Graduate Certificate in Educational Leadership and Management (PGDELM) at the Mauritius Institute of Education (MIE). The methodology which the researcher has adopted is purely qualitative methods where observation and semi-structured interviews with all the students were used for the collection of data. With a view to better encompassing this subject, the researcher has developed a framework standing on five pillars which are Social-Emotional, Physical, Resources, Technological and Policy Challenges. The data findings concerning Social and Emotional Challenges reveal that the leaders of schools feel that they are away from the comfort zone, an add-on to stress, moving away from traditional strategies, culture shock. The physical challenge is that most Heads of Schools expressed that their schools lack the appropriate technological structure and infrastructure. The human resource challenge is the preparation/training of human resource is time-consuming and costly. The data for the technological challenge show that technology remains a determining factor that challenges all Heads of Schools.that assessment of equipment for the sustainability of projects is difficult since no paper records are kept.
