Implementing Engineering for One Planet Sustainability Framework in Undergraduate Education at University of Maryland Eastern Shore

Abstract

The team from University of Maryland Eastern Shore is working on the implementation of sustainability framework developed by Engineering for One Planet into the engineering and biomedical engineering program. This project trained most faculties in the program and developed course materials to educate student on sustainability knowledge. The expected outcomes for this project are: (1) equip all undergraduate students enrolled in the B.S. Engineering program and B.S. Biomedical engineering program with the core environmental and social sustainability skills; (2) increase students’ ability to analyze the sustainability issues in complex engineering problems; (3) provide students the opportunities to apply the sustainability knowledge in the multidisciplinary design project. This project will be a catalyst towards institutionalization and role model for other HBCUs to apply sustainability practices.
