Nutritional Implementation of Hydroponic Lettuce in Athletes' Diets

Abstract

Hydroponics is a cultivation method widely used since historical times. Its abundant use is due to obtaining healthy vegetables. This is due to the concentration of nutrients to which they are exposed. Likewise, the use of pesticides is reduced so they are resistant to diseases or any type of pest. An important characteristic of this cultivation method is the isolation of the soil for vegetable production, which greatly guarantees their residual and microbiological safety. In this way, the incidence of weeds, pests, insects or any microorganism coming from the soil is reduced. Consequently, healthier foods are obtained that satisfy the nutritional requirements for human beings. Finally, the production mode meets the nutritional requirements necessary to be included in diets for human consumption. We review their appropriate contribution to the diets of high-performance athletes. In the world of high-performance sports, both the physical and nutritional development of athletes is important, which is why it is necessary to consume vegetables rich in nutrients that are grown efficiently.
