Sustainability in the Construction Industry and Built Environment: A Comprehensive Analysis and Case Study Evaluation

Abstract

This study paper explores the complex relationship between sustainability and the building sector. It focuses on a coffee house and roastery named Evoke Coffee And Roastery located on Mecca Street, Amman - Jordan. It provides an overview report that highlights the critical importance of sustainable practices in influencing the built environment’s present and future. The objective of this study is to present a comprehensive viewpoint by investigating the smooth integration of sustainability concepts into building techniques and materials. Sustainable construction practices are important on a cultural, economic, and social level in addition to environmental ones. The research explores sustainable practices in the building industry through case studies. To improve the building’s energy efficiency and encourage sustainability, extensive data was acquired using specialized techniques like energy modelling and simulation as well as Post-Occupancy Evaluation (POE). Building components’ strengths were found through a thorough energy analysis, which may be used to raise total energy performance. The analysis of the high electricity consumption led to the application of specialty materials to improve the wall’s insulation quality to preserve heat. The research addressed the management of energy and water waste and put policies in place to reduce both, making the business more environmentally friendly. Notably, there was a noteworthy 30% improvement in the building’s insulation quality, which resulted in a 22% decrease in energy use. This study provides a flexible evaluation process for sustainability projects, offering recommendations for improving building performance and energy efficiency in various settings.
