Heritage Assessment of the Structures in the Historical Town Center of Malolos

Abstract

Historic sites and structures give a particular place its exceptional and irreplaceable character revealing a landscape shaped by the multiplicity of cultures and traditions that compose our national identity. The study focuses on the historical town center of Malolos which has no strict ordinance to preserve, conserve, or restore significant spaces and structures. The instrument used was the asset management plan for the heritage buildings that undertake a detailed assessment of the structures and identify the key heritage elements of all parts of the building, ranking those in priority from prime heritage importance to no heritage importance. Endowed with a resilient and creative people led by a strong local government, open space for development and green areas that give refuge from the urbanized zones, the town’s potential is endless. Through the conduct of inventory and assessment of the town’s cultural, social and physical assets, new policies and guidelines can formulate a realistic and feasible physical development plan.
