Biophilia and Health and Wellness in Education: How One Intersection of Sustainability and Wellness Programs Affect the Princeton Day School Student Experience

Abstract

Princeton Day School, an independent (pre-k to grade 12) day school in Princeton, NJ, USA, has had a long standing commitment to both sustainability and health and wellness education, which has positively affected the student experience for many years. In this presentation, we share how our school has shifted from the traditional in-classroom encounters to the inclusion of using our outdoor spaces on campus as an integral part of meeting our academic and curricular objectives. By prioritizing both sustainability and wellness, we create a culture and an educational community that individually practices those important habits, and who understands their role in making their world a better place.
