Sustainable Development in Nepal: An Interdisciplinary Analysis of Environmental, Cultural, Economic, and Social Dimensions

Abstract

Nepal is renowned for its diverse landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and socio-economic complexities. This interdisciplinary research explores the interplay between environmental, cultural, economic, and social sustainability in Nepal. It draws upon a blend of qualitative and quantitative methods that digs into the intricate interactions between human activities and the environment, elucidating the impact of deforestation, climate change, and natural resource exploitation on Nepal’s fragile ecosystems. It investigates the role of cultural identity in fostering social cohesion and sustainable community development, while also addressing the challenges of cultural erosion and displacement. This research critically assesses Nepal’s development policies and economic models, evaluating their impact on income distribution, poverty alleviation, and sustainable livelihoods. It explores the potential of sustainable tourism, renewable energy initiatives, and inclusive business models in promoting economic growth without compromising environmental and social well-being. The social dimension of sustainability in Nepal is analyzed through the lens of social equity, human rights, and gender empowerment. The research delves into the challenges faced by marginalized communities, particularly in rural areas, and examines the efforts towards social inclusion, and education provision. This paper contributes to the existing literature on sustainability by providing a holistic understanding of Nepal’s multi-faceted sustainability challenges and opportunities. By synthesizing findings from various disciplines, it offers policy recommendations and practical interventions that can steer Nepal toward a more balanced and sustainable future.
