Saving drinking water in domestic applications represents a potentially high effect for sustainable development. Having innovative designs of new products for saving water in homes is therefore an aspect that must be addressed globally. However, this type of devices face a lot of resistance from the perspective of society, since in general, there is no awareness of saving this vital liquid. This is due in part to the still low cost of this good, in such a way that it is not economically attractive to make this type of investment. In this way, the design of this type of device faces a series of requirements, which include an extremely low cost, apart from representing additional advantages to saving water. In this paper, the principles that should govern the design and manufacture of water saving devices in domestic services are discussed, taking as an example a pedal valve that does not require anchoring, which is competitively priced and facilitates the operations of hand washing operations in bathrooms, and kitchen utensils in household kitchens. The device precludes also the transmission of germs. Testing of this product reveals that about 220 cc of water can be saved during each hand washing operation.
