The History of Barangay Cambanogoy, Asuncion, Davao del Norte

Abstract

This study uncovers the historical background of Barangay Cambanogoy, Asuncion, Davao del Norte. It is based on qualitative research that takes historical approach which is perfect in unveiling the history of Barangay Cambanogoy. The researchers utilized primary and secondary sources such as archives, research documents, and oral histories upon completing this study. Through the testimonies of the 14 chosen participants, the researchers were able to create a complete picture of what are the major events that transpired in the past. The results show that Barangay Cambanogoy has favorable geographical location for the seat of government of the Municipality of Asuncion is located in this barangay. It is composed of 24 Puroks and has an estimated total population 9,877 as of the year of 2015. It has been found out that the name “Cambanogoy” was derived from “Cam”, which represented the camp of “Banogoy” (monkeys) in the virgin forest at the time. Cambanogoy was declared as an official barangay on February 23, 1921, by the virtue of Executive Order No. 8 of Governor-General Francis Burton Harrison. This study reveals that the original inhabitants of the area were the tribes of Mandaya and Mansaka. We conclude that Barangay Cambanogoy has a fascinating history that all residents should learn and be proud of.
