Abstract
The entrepreneurial orientation becomes an important area of investigation in strategic management literature. This researcher argues that the influence of entrepreneurial orientation on performance is varied in developed and developing countries due to diverse regulatory, social, cultural, and economic environment. In this context, this research determines the role of entrepreneurial orientation in tourism industry of United Kingdom and Pakistan. More specifically, this study determines the mediating role of entrepreneurial orientation, using resource-based view, in organizational ambidexterity, company’s core competencies with innovative performance and sustainable development. Additionally, the moderating role of institutional support is also examined in the relationship of entrepreneurial orientation with innovative performance and sustainable development. The data were collected from 427 managerial rank employees working in hospitality industries of UK and Pakistan. The results explain that organizational ambidexterity and company’s core competencies has strong influence on entrepreneurial orientation in UK sample, whereas, surprisingly, entrepreneurial orientation has strong association with sustainable development in Pakistani sample. The institutional support further strengthening the entrepreneurial orientation and sustainable development relationship. This study significantly contributes in academic literature by investigating the entrepreneurial orientation’s antecedents and consequences from a sustainable development standpoint.
