Teaching Outdoor Education in the Circumpolar North During Climate Change

Abstract

Professor Kaplan discusses complications of resiliency while teaching outdoor and environmental education during climate change in the circumpolar north. His paper focuses upon inclusive snowboarding and alpine skiing, training college and graduate students to work with people living with disabilities on the mountain slopes of Alaska. He also shares experiences in the revitalization of traditional boating in Prince William Sound following the Exxon Valdez oil spill.
