Anatomy of Sustainable Business Model Innovation

Abstract

The growing literature on “Sustainable Business Model Innovation (SBMI)” has received much attention not only from academicians, but also practitioners. The concept and its theoretical rationalization of its components are still frizzy. To date, little is known about its philosophy of existence which impede its development towards its literature. This paper attempts to bridge this gap by elucidating the derivative philosophy of SBMI. The study attempted connects the analogy of SBMI with Business Model Innovation (BMI) and Sustainable Business Model (SBM). The resulting analogies between BM, BMI, SBM configures SBMI based on Sustainable Value Innovation. The research proposes an SBMI framework compromised of elements: Sustainable Value Proposition Innovation (SVPI), Sustainable Value Creation and Delivery Innovation (SVCDI), and Sustainable Value Capture Innovation (SVCI).
