Big Data and Sport Science in China

Abstract

The advent of the era of big data has greatly affected the research paradigm of sport science and made sport science face another reform. In addition, big data brings new changes to sports theory and sports research thinking at the same time. This paper discusses the development tendency of the new discipline system of sport science with Chinese characteristics under the background of big data, which will help us to construct a new research paradigm of sport science. It is based on a literature review, induction and deduction. Results indicate: 1) The core problem of AI Sport is to obtain massive sports big data through searching various sports behaviors and scenes, and then use algorithm tools such as deep learning and reinforcement learning to mine valuable information, with a view to providing further decision support for the optimization of sports behaviors and scenes. 2) The new discipline system of sport science with Chinese characteristics covers three categories: Embodied sport disciplines, Disembodied sport disciplines and other sport key disciplines, and it branch disciplines include Physical Education, Competitive Sports, Sports Leisure, Sports Industry, Sports Culture, Sports Sociology, Sports Management, Sports Law, Sports Journalism and Communication. 3) The features of big data sport science include ‘From small sample to big data’, ‘Multimodal sports data’, ‘Knowledge-based and data-driven integrating paradigm’. The big data revolution not only enables sports scientists to find a new research method and data source, but also allows us to rethink the research objects, purposes and theoretical system of sport science.
