Hay Festival Minivoleibol: Children's Sports Festival for Communities without Access to Free Sports Programs

Abstract

This community outreach project in mini volleyball sports program originated at the Technological University of Pereira, Colombia. The health sciences faculty and its sports and recreation sciences program, from the volleyball area and its students organize the great event known as Hay Festival Mini Volleyball. For three months they travel to schools, colleges, and neighborhoods of the coffee region, to impart academic knowledge of sports to school children between the ages of 8 and 12. This social sports extension is non-profit, where mini-volleyball is taught, trained, and started. During this time, the institutional mission of bringing the service to schoolchildren who do not have access to the sports infrastructure of stages, training, initiation and accompaniment is fulfilled. A totally free, non-profit and unique festival in its character of social extension that brings together more than 600 children in thirty outdoor mini volleyball courts. With national recognition and the international volleyball federation. The students, in addition to preparing them, accompany, direct and train at the event.
