Regulating Gambling: A Need for Evolution

Abstract

Most of the countries in world have legalized gambling. Gambling is a kind of wagering agreement between two parties or more where they enter into contract on uncertain outcome. In India, the Gambling Act of 1867 was the central law prohibiting gambling. After independence gambling was put into the subject matter of provinces to regulate according to their interest. Unfortunately, this has ended into confusion to most of the states. States like Goa and Sikkim permit gambling but the rest of other nearby states don’t recognize it. This study proposes a need to form uniformity in laws. The research draws on comparative study with Sweden and the UK.
