Augmented Reality for Teaching the Culture of a Region: Case Study in the Department of Cesar

Abstract

Augmented Reality (AR) is an emerging technology that is applied to computer-assisted learning, allowing the design of various attractive educational materials that can be used in situations that are beneficial to them. AR aims to improve the user’s perception and interaction with the real world by supplementing the latter with 3D virtual objects that seem to interact in the same space as the real world. The objective of this article is to present the development of a mobile application based on augmented reality for teaching the culture of a region. Different works and applications whose main objective was the use of AR in tourism were reviewed. Next, a field work was carried out among the population under study in the selected region, to identify the most representative cultural sites, in order to design an application that helps residents and visitors to interact with culture in a didactic way, fun and modern.
