Abstract
The arrival of text generators like ChatGPT made educators pause and consider generative AI’s impact on writing, but the technology is not limited to text. This series will discuss AI beyond ChatGPT and consider how this emerging technology is transforming not simply writing, but many of the skills we associate with learning, such as reading, note taking, research, feedback, and instructional design. In the summer of 2023, the University of Mississippi developed an AI Institute for Teachers in response to generative AI’s impact on teaching and learning. This presentation describes the structure of the institute and strategies other institutions of higher learning can use in rethinking professional development in an era of rapidly iterating AI.
