Preserving Indonesia Local Wisdom to Sustain Agricultural Environment through Documentary

Abstract

Watchdoc is a production house that creates audio-visual works with significant environmental issues, such as documentaries or television feature content. One of Watchdoc’s works is the documentary titled Bumi Ciptagelar (part of the Indonesian Blue Expedition), a story of a village in West Java, Indonesia, named Kasepuhan Ciptagelar that still adheres to the values of local culture to sustain the agricultural environment. This study looks at the local wisdom of Kasepuhan Ciptagelar rice production by applying the knowledge from ancestors to maintain agrarian practices without drugs and agricultural mechanization technology. This study uses a descriptive approach using the content analysis method to uncover the message and value of local wisdom in the documentary Bumi Ciptagelar. The study results show that the documentary film Bumi Ciptagelar Watchdoc successfully demonstrates the ability of digital technologies, such as documentaries, in preserving and sustaining local wisdom for future generations so it can be implemented in other villages in Indonesia.
