Role of Radio Programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’ in Creating Awareness about Government Policies and Schemes

Abstract

The radio has been a popular mass communication medium worldwide since its invention. In India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has selected radio as a tool because it is accessible to over 99% of the Indian population. The “Mann Ki Baat” program, widely discussed and tweeted, is a platform where the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, addresses the nation and discusses various issues of national importance. This research paper aims to study the role of the “Mann Ki Baat” radio program in promoting government schemes and policies in India. To conduct this study, descriptive research and secondary data were collected. The transcripts of Fifteen (15) episodes of the Radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’ from 03rd October 2014 to 30th September 2018 were taken into consideration for the measuring impact on government policies and schemes. The findings suggest that ‘Mann Ki Baat’ has played a significant role in promoting government schemes and policies and helped improve public engagement with the government.
