Benefits of Training Arab Investigative Journalists on New Media Technology

Abstract

This study explores the benefits that can accrue to Arab investigative journalists through exposure to training in new media techniques to compensate for the poor level of basic education on this type of journalism provided by media faculties in Arab universities. Therefore, this topic is of a great importance to drawing the attention of journalists to the value of theoretical and practical training on the use of new media techniques in investigative journalism. It also contributes to placing the knowledge related to these benefits within a specific cognitive framework that paves the way for creating a theoretical framework on the issue which was studied in detail using qualitative research based on conducting in-depth email interviews with twelve journalists from six Arab countries. The study concludes that training investigative journalists on the use of new media technology helps in: developing their technical skills, improving cognition and knowledge, raising professional competence, improving content, enhancing competitiveness, and strengthening relationships.
